This summer was a long hot one for me. I am not sure about any one else but I accomplished very little this summer. I worked on stepping up my gardening this summer. With prices of groceries going up I thought I would try and supplement with tomatoes, carrots, parsnips, rutabaga, turnups, beets, and a few different herbs. Now with the temps cooling down I have to harvest everything.
Aside from weeding my garden I find harvesting everything a bit daunting. I have to can the tomatoes, dry all the herbs I grew and blanch and freeze the root vegetables. I am also very happy that I can supply my family with some healthy home grown food to eat. FYI carrots are not easy to pull out the the ground. Digging is required. 🙂
I did grow a wall of sunflowers this year. They were as tall as my house, which was pretty cool. I will be doing this again next year.
I also took advantage of the hot weather by solar dyeing some roving to spin up. I love solar dyeing because it allows me to feel like I have done something creative when I have been stuck in the office all day.
